Power Supply

Warning

XO-VAC+ is a complex electronic device running on high voltage. Improper use may lead to fire, injury, or death. Please see the Safety page for more information.

XO-VAC+ requires two separate mains power supplies, as shown in the photo below. The two supplies provide power to the Thermal Control and Vacuum Control boxes separately. The power supplies connectors are IEC 60320-1 C14. The cables need to have IEC 60320-1 C13 connectors.

Power Supply

XO-VAC+ Power Supply

Each box is fitted with a mains switch allowing the power to be cut without unplugging the cable.

Danger

XO-VAC+ is available in either US (110V - 15A) or international (220V - 13 A) versions. They are only designed to work at their nominal voltage.

Tips

The working voltage XO-VAC+ can be changed by an Exobotics technician. It is an operation that requires internal parts to be swapped. Please contact Exobotics and ask for a quote if you would like to change the XO-VAC+ working voltage.

Fuse 13A
Note

It is recommended to install XO-VAC+ on a power line fitted with a circuit breaker with an appropriate rating and an external emergency power cutoff into the supply.

Emergency stop

The emergency stop button located at the front of the XO-VAC+ on the Thermal Control rack boxes only cuts the power of the Thermal Control system.

If the user wants to be able to cut the electrical power of the vacuum system in an emergency, the user needs to install an emergency stop button on the mains power line going into the Vacuum Control rack box.

Note

Even if the power to the vacuum control box is cut, the turbo pump will keep spinning due to the motor inertia and the chamber will stay under vacuum as the venting valve is configured to stay closed under power failure.

Power Cuts - UPS

A UPS is not included by standard with XO-VAC+. If power cuts are frequent in the area where XO-VAC+ is installed or only mains with poor power quality are available, a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) can be attached to XO-VAC+ by the end customer. It can be fitted at the bottom of the XO-VAC+ rack. However, at least 0.5 U of space need to be left available under the Vacuum control box (bottom one) to allow for air cooling. Depending on the XO-VAC+, customers might have up to 3U available.

Tip

Exobotics recommends using a UPS with a network card so that the user can be notified in case of a power cut disrupting experiments running on XO-VAC+
